NUTRITION.... The key to success
Along with my dedication to my strength training I place the same if not more focus and in my nutrition. I expect my body to perform at 100% ability day in and day out, and can do so by giving my body the correct portions of the proper "7": Vitamins, minerals, fiber, carbs, fat, protein, and most important water. I aim to eat a diet consisting of 100% whole foods, but recently, I have found so many new healthy "processed" Carbohydrate items that has expanded my menu. Such as, whole grain wraps, bagels, breads, and even hot dog and hamburger buns(Ezekiel) that adhere to my guidelines of consuming 100% whole grains. I have too many favorites to list but my favorite dishes to prepare would have to be my Almond Chicken & Sweet potato salad, and of course my 12 egg tomato, pepper & onion omelette. I always find myself on the hunt for the next new food that looks appealing, next,Look up the health statistics on it... make a fair decision, and prepare it into a dish. Looking back, About 5 years ago, I ate mostly processed convenience food, But as my goals changed...so did my diet. I wanted to feel better, have more energy, and understand how to manage my weight easier and finally feel in control of my body. The more I educated myself on basic nutrition the easier my weight management became, and the more I was able to enjoy a full spectrum of foods, knowing they would only help me get to my goals faster. Presently, every meal I consume outside of my kitchen I choose to to make healthy choices, in the store, at a restaurant, at the gas station..anywhere. I believe by challenging my own limits, and allowing myself to try foods that I used to think "I hated", I could never come to such appreciation for such a variety of foods, if I had never stopped to try them. Everyone has there own unique set of taste buds, so if your turned off by a food or dish..chances are, you have not made it "Your way", to your liking, or in a combination that you prefer. So find a new healthy recipe, take it shopping with you, and explore those isles and fresh produce to make yourself a sweet new treat from scratch...you have nothing to lose, except that "stored energy"..Fat!
I get approached often with the question: "What do you take?" referring to what supplements I may be on. To answer, I take a healthy dose of dedication, and supplement with natural foods, which are the keys to my success. By educating myself continually, I learn and apply new methods in exercise and nutrition, which force my mind and body to experience and adapt to the full spectrum of my goal. I aim to stay "in tune" with my body, by exercising and eating based around what my body may be telling me. It is an ongoing controlled experiment, with one variable to experiment with...my intuition.
So have fun with every meal, and make an effort try new foods all the time, you will be astonished what you may find yourself drawn to, and what you may drift away from as well. You have nothing to lose....except your lunch maybe...or maybe not! Explore your foods out there!
